Back Pain Treatment in Soho, Central London

Back Pain Treatment at Elevate Clinic, Central London:

Back pain isn't the problem. It's usually the result of something your body could no longer tolerate.

If you've hurt your back, there's a good chance you've already heard one of these…

"It's just wear and tear."

"You've slipped a disc."

"You'll have to stop exercising."

"Be careful with your back from now on."

For many people, none of those are particularly helpful.

Because what you really want to know is:

Why has this happened now?

And more importantly…

How do I get back to living normally again?

That's where we start.

Not by treating your back.

By understanding why your back became painful in the first place.

Are you in the right place?

Back pain is one of the most common reasons people come to our Soho clinic.

We regularly help people with:

  • Acute lower back pain

  • Disc herniation and disc bulge

  • Facet joint injuries

  • Mechanical back pain

  • Sciatica and nerve root pain

  • Muscle strains and overload injuries

  • Back pain after lifting weights

  • Sports-related back injuries

  • Recurrent episodes of back pain

  • Back pain that travels into the buttock or leg

  • SIJ dysfunction and piriformis syndrome

  • Discogenic pain and referred leg pain

Whether you've injured yourself deadlifting, your back has "gone" picking up your child, or you've simply woken up unable to stand upright, the first step is always the same.

Let's find out what's actually going on.

Most back pain doesn't happen in one moment.

Patients often tell us:

"I bent down to tie my shoelace…"

"I just reached into the dishwasher…"

"I sneezed and my back went."

But tying your shoelaces wasn't really the injury.

It was simply the final straw.

When we look back over the previous few weeks, there's usually a story.

Perhaps you've increased your CrossFit training.

Started lifting heavier.

Been sitting at your desk twelve hours a day.

Stopped sleeping properly.

Travelled.

Worked through a stressful deadline.

Or simply done a little bit more than your body currently had the capacity to tolerate.

That's what we're interested in. Because if we understand why your back became overloaded, we can reduce the chances of it happening again.

Our assessment is about more than finding where it hurts.

During your first appointment at our Central London clinic we'll establish exactly which tissues are involved.

Is this a disc injury?

A facet joint irritation?

A muscle overload?

A nerve that's become irritated?

Or something completely different?

Once we've established a diagnosis, we start asking a different question.

What does your body currently have the capacity to do?

Because rehabilitation isn't about waiting for pain to disappear.

It's about rebuilding capacity.

The first is simple.

Reduce the pain enough that you can start moving again.

Depending on your symptoms, that might include chiropractic treatment, manual therapy, massage, dry needling or sports taping.

These treatments can be incredibly effective at turning the volume down when your back is particularly acute.

But that's only the first stage.

The second stage is the one that matters most.

We rebuild strength.

Not just because stronger muscles are useful.

But because stronger tissues tolerate life better.

That means gradually restoring trunk strength, rotational control, hip strength and lifting capacity until your body is capable of doing the things that matter to you again.

Treatment has two jobs.

We don't guess when you're ready.

One of the biggest frustrations patients have is being told:

"Just see how it feels."

We prefer to measure.

Where appropriate we'll assess strength, endurance and movement quality so we know when your body is ready to progress.

For gym-goers, that might mean gradually returning to squats, deadlifts and Olympic lifts.

For runners, it may involve a structured return-to-running programme.

For office workers, it might simply mean sitting through a full working day without symptoms returning.

The destination is different.

The process is the same.

What recovery usually looks like.

Every injury is different.

A simple mechanical back pain might settle within a few weeks.

A disc injury or sciatica often takes longer.

The important thing isn't comparing your recovery with someone else's.

It's understanding where you are on your own journey.

We'll explain what stage you're in, what we expect to happen next, and what milestones we're looking for before progressing your rehabilitation.

Our aim isn't simply to get you pain-free.

It's to get you confident again.

Because we don't believe in endless treatment plans.

If you need hands-on treatment, we'll tell you.

If exercise is the answer, we'll tell you.

If an MRI is appropriate, we'll explain why and refer you.

If another clinician would be better placed to help, we will introduce you.

Everything we do is built around one question:

What does this person need to return to the life they want to live?

Sometimes that's getting back onto a CrossFit floor.

Sometimes it's returning to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

Sometimes it's simply being able to pick your children up without worrying your back will "go" again.

Whatever your goal is…

That's the goal we'll build your rehabilitation around.

Why patients choose us.

FAQs

Should I rest my back?
Usually, no. Most back pain responds better to appropriate movement than complete rest. The key is finding the right amount of loading at the right time.

Do I have a slipped disc?
Probably not. Many people use the term "slipped disc," but discs don't actually slip. If we think your symptoms are disc-related, we'll explain exactly what that means and what recovery normally looks like.

Will I need chiropractic adjustments?
Maybe. Manual therapy can be extremely helpful for reducing pain, particularly in the early stages. But rehabilitation, strength and gradually rebuilding capacity are what produce long-term results.

How many sessions will I need?
That depends on your diagnosis, your goals and how long you've had the problem. We'll give you realistic expectations after your assessment rather than selling you a predetermined package.

Ready to understand your back pain?

Back pain can feel frightening, especially when it appears out of nowhere.

The good news is that most back pain responds extremely well when it's accurately diagnosed, appropriately loaded and progressively rehabilitated.
